JAPANESE LACQUER
JAPANESE LACQUER
Urushi is the foundation of Japanese lacquer arts, drawn from the sap of the lacquer tree since the Neolithic era. Each tree yields only a cup of sap in its lifetime, making it rare and treasured. Applied in countless translucent layers over months and years, each one polished, cured, and applied again, Urushi reveals a luminous surface that seems to breathe with life.
Maki-e
Maki-e, meaning "sprinkled picture," is the art of decorating lacquerware with gold or silver powder, applied to freshly painted Urushi before it cures. Within this tradition, Hira Maki-e creates delicate, luminous images flush with the surface, while Togidashi Maki-e buries the gold beneath a final layer of lacquer, then polishes it with charcoal to reveal a restrained shimmer of extraordinary depth.
MURANO GLASS
MURANo GLASS
For over a millennium, the island of Murano has been home to a glassmaking tradition of extraordinary refinement. Born of fire and shaped by generations of master craftsmen, Murano glass embodies a legacy of colour, light, and mastery.
Battuto & Inciso
Battuto ("beaten") and Inciso ("etched") are cold-working techniques applied to nearly finished glass. In Battuto, a master grinder shapes the surface with a diamond wheel, creating rhythmic, hand-sculpted marks that feel both spontaneous and precise. In Inciso, the artisan engraves with a hard stone wheel, pursuing absolute precision in an intimate dialogue between hand and material.
PRECIOUS METALS
PRECIOUS METALS
Gold and silver have adorned sacred and ceremonial objects for millennia, carrying symbolic weight across every culture. In the hands of master silversmiths and goldsmiths, these metals become vessels of meaning, shaped with precision and finished to endure.
Silver & Gold
Silver, with its cool luminosity, lends quiet dignity to works of ritual and refinement. Gold transcends time and geography as the universal symbol of permanence. In KANDOBLANC creations, gold appears in many forms: as powder in Maki-e, as leaf applied to lacquer, or as the molten thread of Kintsugi that transforms fracture into ornament.
CERAMICS
CERAMICS
Clay is among humanity's oldest creative materials, shaped by hand and transformed by fire into objects of permanence and beauty. Across cultures, ceramic traditions carry the imprint of place, philosophy, and the maker's touch.
TEXTILES
Textiles
Japanese textiles are celebrated for their craftsmanship, symbolism, and deep connection to regional traditions, blending beauty with everyday utility. Techniques such as shibori (resist-dyeing), kasuri (ikat-style weaving), and sashiko (decorative reinforcement stitching) have been refined over centuries, producing fabrics that are both durable and visually striking.
Natural fibers like silk and cotton are often paired with plant-based dyes, including indigo, creating rich tones and subtle variation that reflect an appreciation for imperfection and texture. From the elegance of kimono silks to the practicality of workwear fabrics, Japanese textiles embody a balance of artistry and function, preserving cultural identity while continuing to inspire modern fashion and design.
RARE WHISKY
Rare Whisky
Rare whisky holds a founding place in the Maison as both medium and muse. KANDOBLANC seeks only the rarest expressions, often aged for over half a century. These are liquid archives of time, place, and craft. Within our creations, whisky is one expressive element among many, chosen for its narrative resonance.
